Introduction To Maths Crafts!

This term for our Kete the year 7 - 10 are participating in Passion Projects. Passion projects includes different art and learning projects including Stone Carving, Musical Theatre, Maths Crafts, Outdoor Education, Discovery, Community Projects, Digital World & Wearable Arts. Using a spreadsheet we selected our top 3 choices and were then sorted into groups from our choices. I picked Maths Crafts, Stone Carving & Community Projects but I was put into Maths Crafts. We had our first session from period 3 - 5 and will continue that until the end of term as well as from period 2 - 5 on Thursday. At first I was nervous to be working with people I haven't worked with before but once we began working it was fine. We experimented with two different projects, A Mobius strip and a Menger cube. A mobius strip is a piece of paper with a twist in it and when you cut it in half if becomes one band, We tried making different amounts of twists and seeing the outcome. A menger cube is a three dimensional fractal cube made of paper with only folding. Overall my first experience in Maths Crafts was good I enjoyed learning two new activities and I am excited to do string art.

  1. Hi Ruby
As Mr Werder said, you have a great explanation of the maths craft projects in this blog. It would have been good if you had included photos as most people may have never heard of a mobius strip or a menger cube (sponge). It's great that you are looking forward to string art. I look forward to reading your future blog post about this.
