This week for reading we have been continuing our novel study on Paperboy by Vince Vawter. This week we were given a question template with questions about the novels and our opinions. We had to fill in the questions to a Year 8 standard with 5-8 sentence responses.
Here Are My Questions
- What is the conflict between Ara T and Little Man? How will it be resolved?
Little Man was having trouble cutting the ropes on his newspaper with his yellow handle knife. The neighbourhood junkman Ara T often did little jobs such as sharpening knives or scissors. When little man was walking down the alley he ran into Ara T. Little man then payed Ara T $2.00 to sharpen his yellow handle knife. His knife has yet to be returned after several days. I think his knife will eventually get returned however he might be expected to provide something else in return.
- Why do you think Little Man likes Mr Spiro so much?
I think Little man likes Mr Spiro because they can talk about real life. He has explained how other adults don’t answer him honestly or don’t use grown up words. He also understands his stutter and had proven to be helpful for tips on how to speak clearly and with ease. It seems Mr Spiro is a very interesting person and one of the most helpful adult characters in his life. Mam and Mr Spiro were the only one who could help his speaking block.
- Research what a speech pathologist does. Explain what their job is and how they help people.
A speech pathologists is a trained person in performing speech therapy. Speech therapy is the training of helping people with speech disfluencies speak clearly. They can also be referred to as “related health professions”. Who can also help with physical therapy and optometry therapy.
* Dialogue is when characters are speaking to each other
- Who is Mam? What is her role in the family?
Mam is little man’s caretaker. She lives in the garage of the Vollmer house. She is from mississippi. She cooks for the family and is good at cooking little man’s favourite fried chicken. She also cleans the house . She reads the bible.
- What do you notice about the way that dialogue is written within Paperboy? Why do you think the author chose to write this way?
To show the real emotion and tone that the author wanted people to understand. This is also partly an autobiography so some scenarios might have happened in real life. They might have been told how they happened or slightly altered. It was wrote from little man’s perspective so it was probably written as he perceived the situation.
