The Sunken Forest

For the past 2 terms our class has been reading The Sunken Forest by Des Hunt.

The book starts off with Matt getting accused of stealing money from an old lady who he had previously helped with her rubbish. As punishment he had been sent to year 9 camp which was the year above him. Well he was at the camp he became friends with an enormous eel which he named Elsa. A boy had discovered about the eel and had planned to kill him. As he was trying to kill him Matt and his friends created a plan to get him in trouble and save Elsa. Well he was trying to kill her a dam had formed above the waterfall which then burst. Cam couldn't swim so he was put in danger and Elsa was trapped on a hook.

The main characters were Matthew Smith (main boy), Paul and Azura (his friends), Cam and Jay (his enemies), Mr Klineck (school principal), Lewis Armstrong aka Sach (police officer and friend) and his Nana

The story take place in Gisborne, His school, House, Lake Mokau and Lake Waikaremoana.

I thought the book was really interesting and had very interesting plot twists. It had a cool story line and was very interesting. my favourite part was when Matt returned the watch to Sach and his father. I thought it was interesting because he had lost it 60 years ago and went out of his way to get it fixed to return it to him.
