Last week the year 8s paricipated in our EOTC (Education Outside The Classroom) Week activities for camp. We went to 3 different destinations across the 4 days including the Canterbury Museum, Rehua Marae, Omaka Scout Camp, Spencer Park & Adrenalin Forest. Our first day out the Scout camp was postponed because of bad weather until Tuesday the next week.
On Tuesday we went to the Rehua Marae in Christchurch and attended a traditional powhiri with their staff and neighbours. Over the past term we have been learning the protocol of a powhiri in our Te Reo Maori class in preparation for our trip. On the same day we went to the Canterbury Museum, We ate lunch in the park next to the fountain and we climbed in the trees and played.
On Wednesday we had our first day at the Scout Camp located on Lake Roto Kohatu. We were seperated across seven random groups which participated in 8 activities over the 2 days. On the first day my group did Sports, Games, Water Safety and Team Building. At the end we had a quick swim in the big lake and the water was freezing.
On the second day at the camp my group did Fire Building, Archery, Orientubing and Slacklining. I really enjoyed fire building because we made damper and roasted marshmallows.
On Thursday we went to Adrenalin Forest and Spencer Park. We were separated into 2 groups, My group started at Adrenalin forest and the other went to Spencer Park. At Adrenalin forest first we were given a lesson on our harnesses and how the clips worked. Then we were given the chance to do the High Ropes Course. I only went to level 3 because I felt nervous being in the air but I was proud of my self for trying. For lunch the school provided fish and chips and we sat in the forest and ate, After that my group went to Spencer Park. Instead of doing the wetlands walk we spent the whole time at Spencer Park. We played on the playgrounds and sat in the sun.
Overall I had a really fun time and camp and it was a great learning experience where I felt I persevered. Out of all days my fvaourite was our second day at Omaka and Adrenalin Forest.
Kia ora Ruby!
ReplyDeleteYou did an excellent job explaining all the different activities we were doing and how what we were learning in school leading up to EOTC Week helped us once we were on camp.
I hope that you enjoyed the week as much as I did. I think it is great that we were able to end Year 8 on such a fun note.
