This week for writing we have been learning about writing with Dialogue or with Quotation. Last term we began Narrative writing, our task for this week was an extension to this writing, My writing was about getting my cat Percy. We had to edit out writing to include two different uses of quotation within our writing. At first i struggled to find places where I could add speech marks but after after proof reading several times I found some options.
Here Is My Writing
It was a sunny afternoon and school had just finished, I was waiting outside for my sister when I got a call from my mum, she said, “Your step dad is picking you up to pick a kitten from a friends house for your upcoming birthday”. I saw my step dad arrive and I was beaming with excitement. I had previously been stressing over what to name it. I sat anxiously in the car while we drove to the house.
When we arrived at the house we headed out to the garage where the kittens were. When I first saw I felt an overwhelming sense of joy looking at how adorable they were. The 5 of them all looked very unique some were grey and striped, some were black and white and some were black and grey. I felt baffled at the big choice I had to make. After several minutes of thinking I decided on a black and white kitten with adorable big paws. I felt guilty picking one out of them all but my excitement was taking over.
I held the kitten the ride home thinking of names that would suit him. I arrived home to find find a litter tray, food bowl and cat bowl in my room. I immediately went to my mum and said “Thank you so much for the amazing birthday gift”.My family was joyful to have a new kitten. After all the indecisiveness I had finally gotten down to two name options. My family did a vote between Charlie or Percy the vote was close 3 to 2 but Percy won.
I was beaming with excitement seeing Percy joyfully exploring his new home. He was struggling with jumping and climbing but that was expected at his age. After a while Percy was settled in his new home, he seemed anxious but his troublesome personality was still present. Everyone was enjoying his company until his troubles began, He began chewing things up, peeing on the floor and hiding. It was becoming a nuisance to clean up after every mess he would make.
I began to worry that he wouldn’t stop making the mess and that he wasn’t a good fit for our family. A few weeks later we got him some new toys which helped stop him making mess. It was a struggle but he eventually learnt what he can and can’t do. Needless to say I was excited to have a pet of my own who was now well trained.
Ka pai Ruby! I am very proud of the way you worked hard to catch up on your writing, and even add in the quotation mark task by adding in dialogue. Well done!
ReplyDeleteYou used a lot of great describing words and WOW words, which made your Narrative writing interesting to read, and you spelled them all correctly!
My suggestion for next time would be to include a picture to your writing! I bet you have many cute pictures of your kitty Percy!
Well done on this blogging task.

Hi Ruby, I like your story about you getting Percy. I remember when I had pets, they weren't the best but I still had them three. How old is percy now? when is Percy's birthday is?
